The events of the past weeks with the recent murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor have only highlighted all the racism in this country since 1619.
This has continued against minorities of all colors (Black, Indigenous and other people of color) through the years. It has continued against minority religions, gender and sexual preference.
It is a sad testament to the precepts on which this country was founded.
For the past 10 years, the Boxser Diversity Initiative has worked to promote diversity and inclusion to encourage a better understanding of the diverse groups, racial, religious and gender in Southwest Florida .
And in some areas, we have succeeded, but what is happening now shows how much further we have to go to achieve anything like true equality. We applaud the statements that have been made by so many organizations here about the murders and recent events.
We strongly urge the community to take peaceful action to combat racism and prejudice in all forms. Vote to support those who will help eradicate all the hate, racism and division here.
